Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood

Founded in 1928 as a social, political, and religious organization that advocated a fundamentalist interpretation of Islam.  While it has achieved some social reforms and many of its leaders have advocated non-violent reform, it also has a history of violence, including political assassinations and a 1954 assassination attempt on president Gamal Abdul Nasser.
