Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA)

Law passed in 1978 that created a court with specific jurisdiction over granting warrants for electronic surveillance or physical search of persons suspected of espionage.  The Patriot Act authorized the use of FISA warrants for persons suspected of terrorist activity as well.
