Members of a Muslim sect that believes the purest and proper form of Islam existed only during the time of Mohammed and the three generations that followed.  They believe that a literal reading of the Koran is the only source of true authority and seek a rigid application of religious and social laws, in denial of many modern human rights, in order to promote holiness and righteous living
