Afghanistan

Middle Eastern country situated between Iran and Pakistan.  Afghanistan has been ravaged by decades of war, beginning with invasion by the Soviet Union in the 1980's and then life under the brutal control of the Taliban in the 1990's.  The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan following 9/11 and today it is developing a democratic government.
