Central Asian states

Former Soviet republics that are still finding their footing as independent sovereign members of the international community. The Central Asian states include Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. They are often plagued by political instability and environmental degradation left over from Soviet policies, but as a whole possess immense mineral and energy resources.
