Exclusive: Most FSM Readers Agree: Obama’s Policies Less Likely to Keep America Safe
The Editors
In his first week in office, President Obama authorized the closing of Guantanamo Bay (Gitmo) within one year. Will they be coming to a maximum security prison near you? Who knows? Obama has also given thumbs down to extreme interrogation techniques such as waterboarding, and says capturing Osama bin Laden is no longer a priority, but a “preference” (his word). He has also halted all military tribunals, even those of the men behind 9/11.
Welcome to National Security, Barack Obama-style. If his first actions in office are any indication, Obama seems more concerned with our reputation amongst nations who are bound to go back to criticizing us, once the euphoria of Obamamania wears off. But so far it’s a new era of “hope and change,” mixed with a little High School Musical-esque popularity mentality.
Yes, 9/11 happened under George W. Bush’s watch, but Bill Clinton’s administration ignored the many warning signs, emboldening Osama bin Laden to go for the big one. And more than seven years later, even as Islamists continue their deadly attacks around the globe, nothing has happened on American soil. There have been a number of plots – the Fort Dix Six, for example – but thanks to bold policies by the Bush administration, along with stellar work by the intelligence community, the military, and law enforcement agencies, they were all foiled before they could be brought to their deadly conclusions.
If you think the Islamists have given up, think again. They don’t seem to be impressed with the man who empathizes with them. Al Qaeda’s number two had nothing but insults for Obama after his election, and released Gitmo prisoners are rejoining the Islamist effort in increasing numbers. Even Vice President Joe Biden warned us during the election that we would be “tested” by a generated international crisis within the first six months of an Obama presidency – in order to test him – telling us to “gird our loins.”
During the last frenzied days of the campaign in October, when the mainstream media was doing its best to keep Obama’s left-leaning agenda and associates under wraps, presenting him as a centrist and the best thing since sliced bread, over a million of you visited FamilySecurityMatters.org in order to keep tabs on what the candidates have to offer regarding national security. We’re pleased to say that our readers are likely among the best informed when it comes to security issues that affect all Americans.
So when we asked you in a straw poll if you thought Obama’s policies would keep you as safe as George W. Bush did (after 9/11), over 90% of you said “no,” and many of you took the time to comment on this critical issue. Keith said, “The first step was taken to make America weak. Has anyone provided information on where all those terrorists will go after Gitmo’s closure?” (Answer: no.) And Rebecca predicts that “Obama and his leftist colleagues will use the old ‘appeasement strategy’ that was used in the mid- to late 1930s and allowed Hitler’s rise to power. This appeasement strategy is the new intellectually elite’s mindset taught by socialist professors as the path to peace. These elites who worship their intellect will all be crying as their heads are lopped off by those who hold their intellect in contempt.”
FamilySecurityMatters.org will be watching the Obama administration carefully over the next four years – and we wager you will be too. When it comes to national security, it’s everyone’s business.
